Skills in Depth: Strategies for managing behaviour and developing
social skills from 3 to 16 years
This training course aims to help parents and professionals
support children with Down syndrome aged 3-16 years to develop
age-appropriate social behaviour.
Audience
This is a one-day training course for teachers, teaching and support
assistants, Special Educational Needs Coordinators, advisory teachers
and parents.
Aims
The course aims to provide the practical knowledge and skills
necessary to enable participants to successfully support children with
Down syndrome to develop age–appropriate social behaviour.
The course focuses on two equally important practical approaches:
- how to change difficult behaviours once they are occurring
- how to prevent or reduce the likelihood of difficult behaviours
developing by positive planning
Much of the course content will be equally relevant for working
with other children with learning disabilities and/or speech and
language delay, in addition to pupils with Down syndrome.
