Issues in Depth: Supporting inclusion for children with Down syndrome (primary and secondary years)

This training course aims to enable participants to promote effective, evidence-based inclusion for individual pupils with Down syndrome at primary and secondary schools.

Audience

This is a one-day training course for educational psychologists, inclusion support teams, Special Educational Needs Coordinators, heads of learning support and senior managers only.

We also run training courses to provide parents and professionals with a more general introduction to the range of issues affecting the education of children with Down syndrome at primary level (5 to 11 years) and secondary level (11 to 16 years).

Aims

The Issues in Depth - Supporting inclusion training course aims to enable participants to promote effective, evidence-based inclusion for individual pupils with Down syndrome at primary and secondary schools.

The course aims to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the issues, the research evidence and the strategies that promote effective inclusion and lead to both optimum social inclusion and optimum educational outcomes for individual pupils.

The course will also equip participants to develop their own training programmes.

Much of the course content will be relevant to working with children with similar profiles of specific speech, language and memory difficulties relative to non-verbal abilities, such as children with specific speech and language impairment and children with hearing impairments, and children with similar levels of learning disabilities, as well as with children with Down syndrome.
