International conference on developmental issues
This project aims to promote international research through a regular international conference focusing on
developmental issues in Down syndrome.
Down Syndrome Education Internationalorganises the regular International Conference on Developmental Issues in Down
Syndrome to bring together the world's leading researchers and
practitioners to explore the latest research into all aspects of
development for children with Down syndrome.
The delegates attending this conference usually include researchers and
academics from the UK and worldwide, alongside practitioners and
interested parents.
Papers presented at the conference are shared with a wider audience
through publication in the charity's peer-reviewed journal Down
Syndrome Research and Practice. Keynotes from the 4th conference
were also filmed and have been made available on DVD video.
This project supports research activities by providing the opportunity
for the charity to initiate collaborations with leading researchers into
Down syndrome.
It also provides the opportunity for the charity to share and discuss its
research findings and planned research activities with a diverse
audience of peers.
- Promotion of international research by providing the only
international forum focused specifically on developmental issues in Down
syndrome, attended by leading researchers.
- Results of latest research into the education and development of
individuals with Down syndrome shared with audience of delegates and
more widely through the charity's research periodical and video filming.
- Collaborative links developed between the charity's research team and
other leading researchers worldwide.
The first four International Conferences on Developmental Issues in
Down Syndrome have been held at The University of Portsmouth,
Portsmouth, UK, the most recent taking place in September 2005.
The date and venue for the fifth conference are to be confirmed.
Funding
The charity charges fees to conference delegates in order to cover
the venue and administrative costs. However, it seeks grant funding to
support travel and accommodation costs for invited speakers.
