AdviceLine
This project provides individual advice and information to families, professionals
and researchers around the world.
When existing information resources fail to answer individual questions or concerns,
access to experienced experts is often the best route to accurate practical information,
individual advice and reassurance.
This project provides access to individual advice and support from experienced psychologists
and speech therapists. Advice is offered via email, letter or a limited-hours telephone
service.
The charity responds to around 600 individual requests for professional advice and
support each year.
Clearly, a personal advisory service is expensive, relative to the costs of supplying
pre-prepared information and advice. Equally, readily available, pre-prepared information
and advice can effectively meet many needs and be more convenient.
To provide better pre-prepared summary information and advice, the charity is also
investing in the Down Syndrome Topics project
to complement the work of the AdviceLine service. This will offer information
and advice to meet the most frequent queries recorded by the AdviceLine
service to families and professionals around the world 24 hours a day at a time
to suit them.
AdviceLine resources will continue to be focused on supporting those with more complex
needs that are not

concern to families and professionals around the world and thus guiding research
priorities.
