New free online services launched

The content of the charity's leading information website Down Syndrome Online is now freely available under an Open Access licence.

Free access to reliable information on Down syndrome

A key element of the charity's recently announced Strategy for 2007-2012 is a new 'Open Access' publishing initiative. This will offer free access to all of the charity's research papers, books, teaching materials and more for families, education and health professionals and researchers.

Through this initiative, the charity aims to share its accurate, reliable, up-to-date and evidence-based information as widely as possible, to benefit the maximum number of beneficiaries worldwide.

As a result, the charity's extensive Down Syndrome Online website at  will be getting even bigger.
The charity's online resources are already among the most extensive on the World Wide Web. Now we are adding even more content to better inform families, teachers, other professionals and researchers about effective intervention techniques and the latest research.

And for the first time, most of these materials will be freely available under an 'Open Access' licence that will permit individuals and organisations to freely copy and re-distribute the information subject to certain restrictions.

Converting the charity's leading catalogue of printed materials, books and journals will be a major undertaking, that will take significant time and funding.

We plan to add this new, free content to the Down Syndrome Online website web site over the coming months, although the speed with which we will be able to do this is subject to securing the necessary funding. If you think you can help finance this important new work, please let us know.

New grant kick-starts conversion

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation has provided a perfect start to the Trust's new 'Open Access' initiative by recently awarding a grant of £10,000. Click here to find out more...
