Fundraiser walks Scotland coast to coast
In May 2007, John Enoch spent two weeks backpacking 206 miles across
Scotland, coast to coast. John and his wife Nicola decided to raise
sponsorship money for the charity because of the practical support and
advice we have provided for their son.
Sponsored walk raises nearly £5,000
John's route was physically challenging – he climbed a total of 10,317
metres during his walk (1,467 metres more than Mount Everest!). He was
self sufficient, carrying all his supplies and equipment.
John and Nicola sent us this message on his successful return:
"John returned home resplendent with certificate, badge and T-shirt to
prove he'd done it!
"He walked the 206 miles through rain, sun, sleet and plenty of wind.
After a week the blisters toughened up and suffered the same pair of
socks for 13 days. It was a fantastic experience even if painful at
times.
"Particular thanks to Nicola's dad who managed to raise more than £2,000
and to his sister - Aunt Ro - who took no prisoners, getting sponsorship
from more than 35 people - even the window cleaner got tapped up!!
"A huge thank you to all those of you who have kindly sponsored John. We
know from personal experience that the work DownsEd do is very valuable,
and we are delighted to be able to make such a substantial donation with
your help."
John and Nicola have now nearly reached their £5,000 fundraising target.
