Alongside other positive comments, Bob Black, Education Officer at the Down's
Syndrome Association has praised the charity's new video on effective inclusion
for children with Down syndrome at primary schools
The charity's recently released film
Inclusion in practice: Educating children with Down syndrome at primary school
has continued to receive positive feedback from parents and professionals.
Review by Bob Black, DSA Education Officer
Following on from the excellent review of
the DVD in the Times Educational Supplement Magazine, Bob Black,
Education Officer for the Down's Syndrome Association commented in a recent DSA
Journal that this new video is:
"...an essential tool for those schools including children with Down's syndrome
for the first time and is ideal for in-service training and staff development for
schools."
He also praised the “very powerful” footage of children being included in Portsmouth
classrooms and noted that:
"For those viewers that are new to the idea of inclusion in mainstream school,
the implications, practice and theory are clearly laid out, and for those that are
already including children, the footage and experience of the teachers, SENCOs,
support assistants and parents are invaluable."
Other feedback
Here is a selection of other feedback on the primary inclusion film from parents
and professionals:
“We watched it and then gave it straight to our son's school so that they can
immediately start implementing all aspects of the DVD.” Parent
“I have just watched the DVD for the first time with tears running down my cheeks.
It is wonderful and so positive.” Grandparent
”This DVD is a must for any school who wishes to address the subject of integration.
I only wish it had been available when the first child with Down syndrome was introduced
into our school. My thanks and congratulations must go to all those who have been
involved in producing such an essential resource…” Teacher
“I sincerely hope that parents will recommend this film to their schools, and that
the schools in turn are inspired by it…A personal thank you to Down Syndrome Education Internationalon producing such an excellent film that examines the wide range
of issues relating to children with Down syndrome when discussing successful inclusion…”
