Making a lasting difference

Leaving a legacy to the Trust will have long-lasting benefits for individuals with Down syndrome.

Income from legacies is crucial for our current and planned research activities. Good research is expensive, but it underpins our work and provides practical advancements that assists thousands of individuals now, and in generations to come.

Income from legacies also helps the Trust maintain and expand its unique range of education and advice services helping young children with Down syndrome to achieve their potential, now and in years to come.

Legacy options

You could include the Trust in your will by leaving:

  • a specific cash sum
  • a percentage share of your estate
  • the 'residue' of your estate (what is left after you have provided for your close relatives and friends), or
  • specific assets or items of value (such as shares, property or jewellery)

Whichever method you select, whatever you can afford to leave will make a real and lasting difference to our future work.

Inheritance tax

As we are a registered charity, under present tax rules any bequest you make to us will be free of Inheritance Tax.

The total value of the gift will also be deducted from your estate, which may reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax your other beneficiaries have to pay.

For more information about Inheritance Tax, visit the HM Revenue and Customs Web site...
