Taking a lead in research into Down syndrome
Down Syndrome Education International aims to promote research by taking a lead in international research
into the education and development of children with Down syndrome.
The charity's team of researchers, under the leadership of Professor
Sue Buckley, OBE, is renowned worldwide for its
high quality and innovative research with practical
benefits for individuals with Down syndrome.
Promoting research through collaboration
We actively promote research into Down syndrome by:
- seeking out research links with other leading UK and international researchers across the wide range
of disciplines affecting individuals with Down syndrome

bringing together and collaborating with leading researchers in the UK and overseas through regular
research meetings
- organising the world's leading regular conference on developmental issues in Down syndrome

working with researchers across the range of disciplines affecting
individuals with Down syndrome - psychologists, clinicians, educators, geneticists and neuroscientists
- providing a range of research-focused email discussion lists for international researchers
- helping researchers recruit participants for their studies where appropriate
- providing advice and guidance for new researchers

Comprehensive books
The charity shares the practical findings of its own and others research through its publications, in
particular the
Down Syndrome Issues and Information
series of books and Down Syndrome in
Practice films.
Open access journal
It also enables other researchers to share their research findings through its publication
Down Syndrome Research and Practice - the only open access international peer-reviewed journal focusing specifically
on Down syndrome.
