Taking a lead in research into Down syndrome

Down Syndrome Education International aims to promote research by taking a lead in international research into the education and development of children with Down syndrome.

The charity's team of researchers, under the leadership of Professor Sue Buckley, OBE, is renowned worldwide for its high quality and innovative research with practical benefits for individuals with Down syndrome.

Promoting research through collaboration

We actively promote research into Down syndrome by:

  • seeking out research links with other leading UK and international researchers across the wide range of disciplines affecting individuals with Down syndrome
  • bringing together and collaborating with leading researchers in the UK and overseas through regular research meetings
  • organising the world's leading regular conference on developmental issues in Down syndrome
  • working with researchers across the range of disciplines affecting individuals with Down syndrome - psychologists, clinicians, educators, geneticists and neuroscientists
  • providing a range of research-focused email discussion lists for international researchers
  • helping researchers recruit participants for their studies where appropriate
  • providing advice and guidance for new researchers

Publishing research findings

Comprehensive books

The charity shares the practical findings of its own and others research through its publications, in particular the Down Syndrome Issues and Information series of books and Down Syndrome in Practice films.

Open access journal

It also enables other researchers to share their research findings through its publication Down Syndrome Research and Practice - the only open access international peer-reviewed journal focusing specifically on Down syndrome.
