Online Course: Evidence-based speech and language interventions for young people with Down syndrome (birth to 16 years)

This course of 10 web seminars offers detailed information and guidance on evidence-based speech and language therapy and interventions for young people with Down syndrome (0 to 16 years) .


This structured course offers 10 seminars to cover all aspects of speech and language therapy and interventions for young people with Down syndrome (0 to 16 years). Each session lasts 1.5 hours, including 50-60 minutes for the live presentation and 30-40 minutes for the interactive discussion.

This course of web seminars is suitable for speech and language professionals. It provides the information and practical advice needed to provide effective speech and language therapy and support for young people with Down syndrome from birth to 16 years of age.
Web seminars are provided online with a choice of Internet or telephone audio services. For telephone audio, we offer toll-free access in 48 countries*. Participants receive downloadable presentation handouts and resource lists.


Course content

  5. Developing literacy skills for children and young people with Down syndrome across the age range (birth to 16 years)
  6. Evidence for the benefits of inclusion in education for children and young people with Down syndrome and the keys to success (birth to 16 years)
  7. Developing communication and social skills for children and young people with Down syndrome (birth to 16 years)
  8. Developing working memory skills for children and young people with Down syndrome (birth to 16 years)
  9. Effective use of signing and augmentative communication for children and young people with Down syndrome (birth to 16 years) - risks and benefits
  10. Looking forward: How do we support full inclusion and meaningful lives for children and young people with Down syndrome (birth to 16 years)?
