Through our consulting, information and advice services we provide practical, evidence-based support to schools educating children with Down syndrome in their classrooms.

Down Syndrome Education International provides expert support to mainstream schools educating children with Down syndrome in their classrooms. The charity's scientific research has found that children with Down syndrome who are fully included in mainstream schools have better speech and language skills, are more likely to be reading and writing, and to have more mature social behaviour than those taught in segregated settings.

Services helping schools

Through its consulting, information and advice services, the charity provides support to enable mainstream schools to include children with Down syndrome effectively in their classrooms.

 This information and advice is based on the latest research evidence and the charity's extensive hands-on experience in providing support to children being included in mainstream classrooms in southern England.

The charity offers the following support for schools including children with Down syndrome:

• our Down Syndrome Issues and Information books - available to purchase in print, or view online for free
• our video film Inclusion in Practice - Educating Children with Down Syndrome at Primary School
• our onsite training services for schools and online learning courses
• our training conferences at locations around the world, with tracks suitable for education professionals
• our consulting services for schools and education providers
• direct support for children included in primary and secondary schools in Portsmouth, under a contract with Portsmouth Local Education Authority
