"This DVD contains lots of information that is useful to parents in the first
few months before they are receiving much professional support. It is nice to
have information that is positive about the development of your baby."

"I really enjoyed your video...I feel it is such a good resource
for families and professionals to have play role-modelled and its importance in
development described so well - I have not seen any video that emphasises so well about
helping babies manage their feelings and how early interaction encourages attachment.
I think this will really help parents to enjoy their babies even more."
Specialist Health Visitor, UK

About this film
"A must for all parents who have babies with
Down syndrome" Feedback from a parent, UK
From birth to 18 months, babies with Down syndrome make progress in all
areas of development, in the same way as other children, but usually at a
slower pace.
This 77-minute DVD, Development in practice: Activities for babies
with Down syndrome, illustrates a wide variety of practical activities
to promote the development of babies with Down syndrome. These activities
are designed so they can be easily included into everyday routines and
activities.
"...a well thought out and useful guide for
parents wishing to enhance their child's development. It provides clear
information and, more importantly, models key skills. I will happily
recommend it." Psychologist and Early Intervention Specialist, Ireland.
The film was developed by the world-renowned team of experts at Down Syndrome Education International
including Researchers, Psychologists and Speech and Language specialists. It
provides a valuable and unique resource for parents and for professionals in
early intervention.
"This is an invaluable and engaging resource,
the focused explanation of how the activities presented can benefit the
development of babies is both encouraging and inspiring for new parents."
Feedback from a parent, UK
All of the activities are based on the latest research evidence about the
developmental strengths and needs of infants with Down syndrome. The video
explains why the activities are important and which areas of development
they support:
- Part 1 - Laying the foundations focuses on early
development. It describes the important elements of development and
demonstrates significant behaviours and activities for very young
babies. It seeks to provide a general foundation for later skills to
build on and it discusses the principles that can be applied to
different areas of development
- Part 2 - Next steps gives practical advice and activities
for supporting the development of skills that may be more difficult for
babies with Down syndrome to develop independently.
The activities in the film are clearly illustrated by parents and
therapists working with young babies with Down syndrome.
"I liked it's visual impact with the children,
families and professionals, and the clear headings and subsections,
making it very easy to access particular sections quickly...I liked the
mix of different children in the video - it emphasised well that they
are all so individual with their own personalities and rates of
development..." Specialist Health Visitor, UK
