Education and intervention
Through our early intervention and school inclusion services we aim to develop and
share effective ways to help children with Down syndrome learn during their preschool
and school years.
Early intervention service
We provide a highly-regarded early intervention service
for preschool children and their families living with 70 miles of The Sarah
Duffen Centre in Portsmouth, UK.
We also work closely with DownsEd USA and
the Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County
in the provision of their Learning Program for children who have Down syndrome.
The Learning Program delivers evidence-based educational support to children, parents
and teachers. Children in the program receive monthly classroom experiences which
focus on skill development for literacy, mathematics, fine motor and language. Students
also benefit from tutoring, therapy, special workshops and customised home-use materials.
We share the early intervention techniques we have developed and tested through
our publications, training and consulting services
- and through our See and Learn suite of practical
resources.
School inclusion service
We provide direct support for schools including children with Down syndrome in regular
classrooms in Portsmouth and a wide range of information,
advice and consulting services for schools across the UK and around the
world including children with Down syndrome in their classrooms.
Sharing effective techniques to improve education and development
By developing, providing and evaluating our model services we are able to demonstrate
effective preschool interventions and practical techniques for school support that
we can then share with families, professionals and organisations through our
publishing, training and consulting
services.
Global education initiative
Through our our global education initiative we also aim
to ensure that this information benefits the many thousands of children living with
Down syndrome in low and middle income countries around the world.
