Sharing practical strategies
The Trust's research has identified a range of
key findings that can help individuals with Down syndrome achieve sustained
gains in all areas of development in order to help them lead more independent and
fulfilling lives.
Our education services aim to share these research findings in practical and accessible
formats with families, teachers, therapists and physicians to help people with Down
syndrome achieve these gains.
Over the past 30 years, the Trust has developed an extensive and effective range
of publishing and training activities that provide information to many tens of thousands
of people around the world. Our education services range from innovative early intervention
services to internationally acclaimed books and websites.
Wide-ranging education services
The Trust has published over 35
books, selling around 80,000 copies to date. It also publishes the
leading peer-reviewed scientific journal focused specifically on Down
syndrome, which is read by an international audience of researchers, practitioners
and parents.
The Trust has also produced a range of practical videos
and DVDs, along with practical teaching materials,
for parents and professionals.
The Trust has been publishing online
since 1996. Web site visits have quadrupled over the past 4 years, reaching thousands
of people in over 130 countries around the world, 24 hours per day.
Each year, members of the Trust's expert staff team present to thousands of
participants at conferences and workshops around the
world. These events include workshops for parents, training for practitioners and
scientific conferences for researchers.
Early intervention and consultancy services
The Trust’s AdviceLine service offers guidance
and information on developmental, educational, behavioural and medical issues. Parents
and professionals from around the world contact the charity via telephone, letter
and email, for support.
The charity also offers a preschool early learning
programme attended by over 90 children in southern England and regular
Open Days.
