Visiting The Sarah Duffen Centre by car
Portsmouth is easily accessible by car. The Sarah Duffen Centre is situated just south of Portsmouth
city centre.
From the Midlands and the North, the A34 from Oxford to the M3 offers a direct route south. The A3 is
often the quickest route south from the M25.
Most routes will converge on the M27 or A27 just north of Portsmouth. From there, take the M275 into
Portsmouth and follow the directions below.
Directions to The Sarah Duffen Centre from the M275
- Approach Portsmouth City Centre via the M275. Stay on the motorway/dual-carriageway over the flyover
past the continental ferry port. The dual-carriageway ends at a roundabout.
- At the roundabout, take the second exit (straight on) onto Commercial Road, past a Church on the left,
Sainsbury's supermarket and BP petrol station on the right until the next roundabout.
- At the roundabout take second exit (to the right) onto Marketway. Keep going straight on until traffic
lights outside Naval base.
- At traffic lights, continue straight ahead onto Alfred Road until next set of lights.
- At traffic lights, continue straight ahead onto Anglesea Road (this is slightly to the left as you approach).
Keep going past park on left to traffic lights near bridge, getting in the left lane.
- At the traffic lights under the bridge, stay on the Anglesea Road (straight ahead), now moving into
the right-hand lane until 'roundabout' (a one-way system around a block of buildings).
- When on roundabout, ignore first exit (dual carriageway - Winston Churchill Avenue), continuing round
past University House, and onto the second exit into Hampshire Terrace.
- Continue south and Hampshire Terrace becomes Landport Terrace. Keep going until small roundabout.
- At roundabout, take the first exit (left) onto Kings Road which turns into Elm Grove until the zebra
crossing.
- Immediately beyond the zebra crossing, turn left into Green Road (a signpost for The Sarah Duffen Centre/Portsmouth
Down's Syndrome Trust can be seen at this point) until just past the Jet petrol station.
- Immediately past the Jet petrol station, turn right into Belmont Street (The Sarah Duffen Centre is
signposted). Carry along Belmont Street for a short distance to The Sarah Duffen Centre (a large Victorian
building) on the left.
- Turn into the driveway and drive around to the rear of the building.
Please note: There is only very limited on-site car parking for visitors. You should allow time to find
alternative car-parking in the vicinity. There are parking restrictions on many of the surrounding roads.
The nearest public car park is at Waitrose on Marmion Road (about 5-10 minutes walk). To get to Waitrose
car park, follow the above instructions to step 9, but carry along Elm Grove instead of turning left
after the zebra crossing. You will reach a set of traffic lights on a crossroads - turn right at these
lights into Grove Road South. Marmion Road is the last turning on the left (just before you reach the
pedestrianised Southsea shopping centre). The Waitrose car park is a short distance along Marmion Road
on the right (just after Waitrose). Please note - charges apply for this car park.
